Thinking on this question, I concluded with this:
- Time moved differently in each dimension.
- Earth moved faster than the others
- Earth advanced and the Gods decided that the worlds should not co-exist anymore.
- Enki, master of the element of Water and Lord of Intelligence had the power to control portals.
- Enki went to Earth and used up all his strength to seal the portal between Earth and the other worlds.
- Depleted of strength, Enki hid on Earth, passing from one human vessel to another with each generation.
